How to activate a Steam key (step by step)

A Steam key is a 15-character code (XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX) that permanently adds a game to your Steam library. You can redeem it in the Steam client or on the website.

Steps

  1. 1Open the Steam client on your PC and sign in.
  2. 2In the top menu, click «Games» → «Activate a Product on Steam…».
  3. 3Accept the subscriber agreement and paste your key.
  4. 4Click «Next». The game appears in your library, ready to download.
  5. 5Without the client: go to store.steampowered.com/account/registerkey, sign in and paste the key.

Tips & common issues

  • If Steam says the key is for another region, check the region shown on the product page before buying.
  • DLC requires the base game on the same account.
  • «Duplicate key» means it has already been used: open a ticket from your order and we will replace it.
